The TUfast Eco Team of the TU München could record an extremely successful racing season also this year. In the framework of a permanent project, a group of more than 40 students develops highly efficient electric vehicles.
SPN has been a sponsor for the second time for the racing team and, together with the students, develops components for the gearbox and the drive train.
In specific racing competitions like the Shell Eco-marathon or the EducEco, teams fight on an international level for the best drive efficiency. The target is to manage the course within a given time with the lowest possible energy consumption. As the TUfast Eco team set a world record last year already, they dared to participate this season with a completely new concept in the next higher car classification. In the “urban concept category”, different car components like wipers or upright seats for the driver are required in order to meet the requirements for the use in the public transport. muc017 is the name of the vehicle with which the first place at EducEco in France, the Grand Prix for the best urban concept as well as three further off-track aards for the best drive trains, “the best drive strategy” and “technical innovation” could be won. Immediately after that, an amazing second place could be recorded at the Shell Eco-marathon in London. These are successes which the SPN training workshop under the direction of Peter Kuhberger and Sascha Nebrich together with six trainees in the third training year could make a contribution to. “In the period between January until March, we have invested 60 hours of manpower in the project and due to the huge enthusiasm of being part of such an innovative project, we have invested almost another 60 hours in our sparetime,” Sascha Nebrich, deputy training supervisor at SPN and contact person for the TUfast Eco team said. The team around the project manager undercarriage Martin Schulz provided the necessary material as well as the CAD drawings, on the basis of which the training team of SPN produced two motor pinions, one quill shaft, two racks, two output shafts for the steering of muc017. Especially the processing of the output shafts included a lot of work, Sascha Nebrich said. Due to the straight schedule, he had to work long hours and finally delivered them in person to Munich. This was in time in order to build the parts into the muc017, which achieved an amazing result of 194 km/kWh at the 50 km long course. Martin Schulz is excited about the cooperation with SPN. “For us students, it is a great opportunity to use our theoretical knowledge in practice. While other sponsors simply deliver the parts, SPN has supported us actively in order to perfect the drawings and thus the components. Being a student, it is important to see how one´s own plans are turned into concrete parts, and we can learn what is redundant or optimizable about our drawings. Therefore, we would like to continue with the cooperation with SPN next season, we are currently discussing this. Nebrich: “I am optimistic that our training workshop will also take part next year. Because sponsoring is priceless advertising for SPN.” As reward, they have put an ad banner on the muc017, thus the winner car became an internationally recognized advertising medium.
We are proud of the great work of the SPN training workshop and congratulate the TU fast Eco team again on the successes 2017!
