SPN training workshop contributes to world record

PThe contact was established by Timo Ebert (a member of our engineering staff), who studied at the Technical University of Munich together with Lisa. After receiving the OK from Mr Hertle, our trainees, who were supervised by Sascha Nebrich, got started right away: Parts such as motor housings, motor covers, motor shafts, axle nuts and sprockets were machined on the DMU and Spinner machines in the training workshop; the material was provided for them. The racing team was so satisfied with the machined parts that the training workshop was commissioned to machine more parts for the electric car in May. “Overall, we have made a significant financial contribution to the success with the machining costs and the working hours of our training workshop. In return, Lisa Kugler converted this effort into the equivalent sponsorship value in the form of square metres on the car. We were thus very happy to receive advertising space with a width of approx. 40 cm on the “eLi14”, said Rainer Hertle, Technical Director at SPN. After a preparation time of one year, the big day arrived. On Saturday, 16 July 2016 the TUfast Eco Team made the official world record attempt on the Audi test course and was able to set a new record for efficient vehicles. The team achieved a fantastic result at the first attempt, which alone would have been enough to set a new record: 1,142 km/kWh. However, the students' ambition knew no bounds. At the end of the day it was possible to significantly improve the result. The energy meter displayed 81.16 Wh/100 km. That corresponds to 1,232 km/kWh oder 10,956 km per litre of premium petrol. Expressed in units understood by every car driver, that is 0.009 litres of premium petrol per 100 km. Since Saturday the TUfast Eco Team can refer to itself as world record holder for the “most efficient electric vehicle”! We would like to congratulate our training workshop for their contribution to this success! TUfast Eco is a project run by the student association TUfast E.V. at the Technical University of Munich. The team consists of highly motivated students from various branches of study, who set themselves the goal of designing, manufacturing and building a prototype-class vehicle that is as energy-efficient as possible in oder to compete in the Shell Eco Marathon Europe.
