As with all existing solutions, the gearbox with cover has been designed so that it can be made from aluminium plate material at short notice. The switch shaft (output shaft) with control pin remained unchanged in the area towards the inside of the gearbox so that it could also be quickly manufactured from existing, similar parts. Long lead time parts such as hardened gears with ground toothing in some cases or the toothed motor shaft have been reused.

Initial Situation
A medium-voltage grid with up to 38,500 volts and 12,000 A is used to distribute electrical energy for several localities, individual districts or railways. If you wish to interrupt the power supply for repairs, for example, special switching devices are required to protect people in the electrical environment.
SPN provides customer-specific spur gearboxes for such switching devices in energy technology. Outstanding reliability and robustness are important criteria so that functionality is guaranteed, even at high temperatures or extreme cold and after long downtimes. In the event of a power failure, this procedure can also be carried out manually - using an attachable crank handle, whereby the drive train is mechanically decoupled beforehand. It’s better to be safe.
Project implementation
A common practice at SPN is the adaptation of standard gearboxes or the modification of existing solutions to new customer requirements. In this way, a new potential customer could be shown the different options from a portfolio of existing solutions consisting of switch gears, and a drive made available for preliminary testing and other tests at short notice. The SPN professionals could then make the adjustments for use for all customer requirements together with the customer’s developers. The connecting dimensions of the housing and the gear shaft to the customer switch have been individually adapted while maintaining the repeatedly proven gear ratio with a special toothing in the first stage (motor shaft with two teeth).

The drive is used in switching devices to interrupt isolating/earth contacts for repairs, for example. In the event of a power failure, the gearbox can be actuated using an attachable crank handle and mechanically decoupled at the same time.
