In the past, most materials were transported via forklifts, lifting carts or electric pallet trucks at SPN. However, the loading volume of these vehicles is very limited. Due to the continuous growth at SPN, the internal goods transport has reached its capacity limits with the common transports means. The building of a new production hall and the connected optimised material flow has caused the people responsible at SPN to decide for the introduction of a tugger train.
Compact, directionally stable and flexible
Compact, directionally stable and flexible – these were the decisive characteristics for the choice of the right tugger train. With a very compact design in connection with the very good manoeuvrability, the tugger train is absolutely suitable for tight routes and curves. The possibility to place many different goods holders in all carriages has offered the flexibility requested when it comes to using the tugger train. Thus, the number of carriages could be minimised and the lenth of the train could be limited.
„Stop and Go“
„Stop and Go” is the motto of the new tugger train. He is supposed to transport as many production parts as possible in a cost-saving and efficient way. „Train stations“ where the train stops and goods are loaded/unloaded were installed in different places in the production and assembly department. The train stops at these train stations several times a day. Every workplace is aligned to a certain train station, where the goods needed or produced at this place can be taken to or collected from.
Correct provision
In order to be able to load the material into the train, the plastic boxes used (carrier 600mmx400mm) have to be provided in certain goods carriers. The goods carriers, so-called trolleys, are available in three sizes (1200mmx800mm Euronorm; 800mmx600mm; 600mmx400mm). There is also a special stick carrier for lager parts. Transports of parts which exceed this size are still made with a forklift.
