Certification according to the aviation norm DIN EN 9100 successfully completed!

Markus Lechner, Head of Quality Management is happy about the new Certificate

With the successful completion of the DIN EN 9100 norm, SPN Schwaben Präzision has started a new chapter as supplier for the whole aerospace industry. Since October 2017, the specialist for toothing elements and drive systems has been listed as certificate holder in the OASIS database of the International Aerospace Quality Group and is now officially “certified”. For Markus Lechner, Head of SPN´s Quality Management, the DIN 9100 is a milestone  on the way into the future, especially in view of the current market strategy of the company, which is aiming for a considerable growth in aviation shares in the sector mix. Lechner: “Especially the larger aviation companies have raised their requirements to such an extent that the 9001 norm is no longer sufficient and that they only accept companies with 9100 certificates as suppliers. As many mechanical engineering companies from the medium-sized sector do not have this, specialists for gear wheel production are in great demand in this industry segment. And of course we would like to benefit from this demand situation.” One of the main reasons, according to Lechner, is that the DIN EN 9100 requires a high operative demand and a lot of time. In terms of SPN,   the period between the application for the certification in December 2016 and the main audit, carried out by TÜV SÜD between 24 – 28 July 2017, was more than 6 months, a period which SPN Schwaben Präzision used with intense preparation. In this context, already in February a completely new management manual could be issued as basis for the followup processes. Until April, 17 employees were trained as internal auditors which then held a total of 11 audits in the following two months. For the introduction, SPN received competent support from Dieter Weckerle, an external advisor of TÜD Süd. The decisive main audit was finally carried out by two external auditors and ranged from the design department to the purchasing, to the sales department, quality assurance to the management and was about all sectors and departments of SPN. The subjects to be clarified in the Non-Conformity Reports could be handled within the required two-months deadline and was finally successfully approved by TÜV SÜD and the IAQG.
