Company Jakob-Müller AG based in Switzerland is a producer of high-end weaving machines and has been developing innovative technolgies for the ribbon and narrow fabric industry for 130 years. Nowadays, Jakob-Müller AG is the global leader in this market.
Products which are manufactured with these machines are, for example, safety belts for vehicles, safety relevant load tapes, high-quality textile labels, energy absorber belts or compression bandages for the medical sector.
SPN has now developed and produced a worm gearbox specifically for the drive of a Jakob-Müller weaving machine. The gearbox is driven via a drive belt on the worm shaft. The drive assembly consists of a case-hardened worm shaft and a bronze worm wheel, has an axial distance of 80 mm and a transmission ratio of i=8. In order to reach the target price, the axial distance was reduced and a higher power density was achieved, amongst other things. Via further pulleys, different ancillary units are driven by the worm shaft. On the output shaft, there is – besides a helically toothed spur gear – also a sprocket, which drives the oil pump of the machine-side continuous lubrication of the gearbox. The axis of the mating gear is clamped via a steel component which is integrated into the gearbox housing. The gearbox housing consists of 2 aluminium gravity die castings.
As a first article series, Jakob-Müller AG has ordered 50 complete gearboxes. The development was finished at the end of May 2019. In the middle of September, already 20 completely mounted gearboxes could be delivered. The remaining quantity will be delivered at the end of November. The machines by Jakob-Müller are used amost all over the world. In the future, it is planned to deliver 400 gearboxes per year.
